LiveSpace Shutting Down

LiveSpace Shutting Down

In a move that came out of the blue this morning, LiveSpace has announced that the service will be shutting down on May 1st, 2024. Giving creators and streamers very little warning as to the future of the platform. Even now, no one can spin up a stream as the site is dead, except for the social networking side of things.

Everything seemed to have been going fine as there were plans for some updates coming very soon. Within the LiveSpace Discord server, Alyssa, the Community Lead of LiveSpace posted -

The project was friends and self funded. There was strong promise about funding (up until we notified the community) and we had big changes planned for may. There was a discussion about crowd funding but decided it was not a responsible thing to do with creator’s money. Especially since many creators want payment to change or try a new platform out

LiveSpace released a blog post explaining the closure, including that the rising cost and unable to secure funding were the factor in this decision.

As for the future of those who had called LiveSpace home, it's unclear as to where they may end up. Ultimately, this is a decision that only those creators can make. This also puts a stronger light on the remaining small live-streaming platform Shareplay. Who has seen a small number of streamers using the service and the glacial movement of updates? Creators and streamers have already gone through many service shutdowns and may very much be looking to stop streaming altogether as this final straw breaks the proverbial camel's back.
